College Football Scores: #3 Alabama Crimson Tide Shut Down #20 Mississippi Rebels, Mark Ingram Picks Up 172 Yards on the Ground

Mark Ingram rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown, Leigh Tiffin kicked five field goals and the defense of the #3 Alabama Crimson Tide (6-0) forced five turnovers and didn’t allow the #20 Mississippi Rebels (3-2) to convert a single third down attempt in a 22-3 beat-down on Saturday.

While the Crimson Tide’s defense was the story of the game the Rebels defense was equally impressive most of the first half as they kept the game close, hoping the offense would eventually click. Alabama had to settle for a single field goal from Tiffin in the opening quarter and the senior kicker added two more in the second quarter to boost the lead to 9-0. It looked like Alabama would have to settle for another field goal just before the half but Ingram managed to break through the Rebels tired defensive line and went 36 yards for a touchdown for a 16-0 lead.

Despite their brutal offensive showing in the first half Mississippi still had a shot at keeping the game close and when Joshua Shene kicked a 25-yard field goal in the third the Rebels were within 16-3. Unfortunately for the Rebels that would be the only offense they would manufacture as quarterback Jevan Snead had an awful game, completing just 11/34 passes and was intercepted four times.

Alabama’s offense turned to Ingram to control the game and his 172 yards kept the Tide offense on the field and gave them a 17 minute advantage in time of possession.
