U.S. troops have arrived in the Philippines to help assist in the relief efforts following a pair of devastating typhoons that has left many as 600 people dead and thousands more struggling to secure food and clean water.
Reaching many of those suffering the most has been difficult as villages in the northern region of the Philippines have been completely isolated due to roads and bridges being destroyed in the storms. As a result much of the food aid is now being delivered by helicopters.
The Philippines was pounded by Typhoon Parma and a week earlier they were hammered by Tropical Storm Ketsana. At least 330 people were killed in Manila and surrounding areas as a result of Ketsana while the death toll from Parma is expected to rise as more bodies are discovered.
