Carmelo Anthony and Josh Howard Named to NBA All-Star Team

NBA commissioner David Stern has announced that Carmelo Anthony and Josh Howard will be joining the Western Conference squad as injury replacements at the Feb. 18 All-Star Game in Las Vegas.

Despite leading the NBA in scoring Carmelo Anthony was left off the roster when reserves were announced last week. Many felt his 15-game suspension as a result of a brawl at Madison Square Garden was the reason for his omission. The Nuggets star forward will be making his first All-Star appearance

This will be Josh Howard’s first NBA All-Star Game as well. Howard will be joining his Dallas Mavericks teammate Dirk Nowitzki on the revised roster. Howard has helped Dallas establish the best record in the NBA (40-9) while averaging just under 20 points per game and 7 rebounds.

Stern chose Anthony and Howard as replacements for the injured Yao Ming and Carlos Boozer.

Carmelo Anthony and Josh Howard will join Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire, Shawn Marion, Tony Parker and Allen Iverson as Western Conference reserves while Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Tracy McGrady, and Kobe Bryant were voted as starters. Mike D'Antoni of the Phoenix Suns will coach the Western Conference. D’Antoni will name a replacement for Yao Ming’s position in the starting lineup.

The Eastern Conference All-Star team is comprised of LeBron James, Gilbert Arenas, Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O’Neal as the starting five while Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, Jermaine O’Neal, Dwight Howard, Caron Butler, Chauncey Billups, and Richard Hamilton were named as reserves.
