Medical professionals in Majorca will examine the late Boyzone singer’s body tomorrow, three days after he died suddenly at the holiday home he shared with his partner Andy Cowles in Port d'Andratx.
The examination has been delayed by 24 hours because of a public holiday in Spain today.
The 33-year-old singer’s body which is being kept at the Hospital Anatomico Forense de Palma - was discovered in a crouched praying position by Andy on Saturday lunchtime (10.10.09), after the pair had enjoyed a night out at a local gay club.
It is believed the pop star died after choking on his vomit.
A family friend said: "The family has been told the most likely scenario is Stephen had a bit too much to drink, vomited in his sleep and choked. It was a terrible accident."
Another source added: "Andy said he screamed, 'Wake up! Wake up!' at him. He also tried mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
"But doctors later confirmed Stephen's lungs had filled with fluid. There was nothing Andy could have done. He'd drowned and asphyxiated."
Spanish police are not currently treating the death as suspicious and Stephen’s family lawyer Gerald Keane has called the death a tragic accident.
