Joy Behar is saying goodbye to The View after 16 1/2 years as co-host. Behar has informed ABC that she will not renew her contract when it ends this August.
"It seemed like the right time," Behar tells Deadline.com of her departure."You reach a point when you say to yourself, 'Do I want to keep doing this?'”
The 70-year-old hopes to work on other projects, but doesn’t plan to leave the talk show business for good. “There are other things on my plate I want to do — I've been writing a play, I've been neglecting my standup,” she says.
"I want to do an intelligent talk show where you have room to breathe,” Behar added.
With Behar’s departure, Barbara Walters will be the only original host remaining. Current co-hosts include Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd.
