French magistrates have filed preliminary charges against a nuclear scientist, alleging the 32-year-old man of Algerian descent was linked to al-Qaeda and had expressed a desire to carry out attacks for the terrorist group.
The man had been working at the European Organization for Nuclear Research along the Swiss-French border when he was detained on Thursday. On Monday he appeared in court to face charges of “criminal association with a terrorist enterprise.”
According to reports the man became a suspect when it was discovered he had been exchanging messages with people who had terrorist ties.
