Suicide Car Bombing Strikes Security Convoy in Pakistan’s Swat Valley, at least 41 Killed

A suicide car bombing struck a security convoy in Pakistan’s Swat Valley on Monday killing at least 41 people and injuring several more.

The attack occurred in the Shangla district and is believed to have been carried out by the Pakistani Taliban. According to reports the car had been parked near a hospital and detonated when the convoy was passing, directly striking one of the military vehicles and destroying several other trucks.

A spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban has said the attack was carried out as retaliation for the killing of its leader Baitullah Mehsud by a U.S. drone attack earlier this year.
