Eddie Feigner, “The King” of Softball Dead at 81.

Eddie Feigner, the architect and centerpiece behind one of the most dominate barnstorming teams in any sport, has died. Feigner, 81, became known for legendary accomplishments on the softball diamond. At one time the right-handed hurler had his pitches clocked at 104 mph.

Feigner began the barnstorming days with “The King and his Court” in 1946 in Washington State. From there his popularity and legend grew. Once faced with a lineup featuring major league stars Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Maury Wills, Harmon Killebrew, Roberto Clemente and Brooks Robinson, Feigner didn’t flinch as he struck each one out in order.

In his career Feigner was credited with playing in over 10,000 games, striking out a remarkable 141,517 opposing batters, throwing 930 no-hitters, 238 of them perfect games. Feigner was elected into the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame in 2000.

The former Marine suffered a stroke in 2000 which ended his playing days. He was 75 at the time of his retirement. His wife said that Feigner died froma respiratory ailement related to dementia.
