Monday Night Football Schedule: Miami Dolphins Host NY Jets in Key AFC East Showdown, Braylon Edwards Makes Debut

Both the Miami Dolphins (1-3) and New York Jets (3-1) have a lot on the line tonight when they square off on Monday Night Football, one looking to keep their season alive while the other is trying to establish a solid one-game lead in division play.

After dropping their first three games of the season the Dolphins bounced back last week and knocked off the Buffalo Bills and Miami could take another step toward steadying the ship with a victory over the Jets. While the Dolphins are sitting at 1-3 on the year they could easily be 3-1 and fighting the Jets for the division lead. Miami had Indianapolis on the ropes in Week 2 and outplayed San Diego in Week 3 but they couldn’t put the game away. Now they’ll need to figure out a way to put points on the board against one of the best defenses in the NFL.

That Jets defense has allowed an average of 14.3 points per game and swarms to the ball but they could have their work cut out for them when they face the NFL’s best rushing attack. The Dolphins average 183.5 rushing yards per game and will almost certainly be using Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams as their weapons of choice on Monday night as they send Chad Henne back under center for just his second career NFL start.

As dominant as the Jets defense is they have collected just four sacks all year, tied for the fewest in the NFL. That would give Henne some peace of mind if it weren’t for the fact that the Jets have the fourth best defense against the pass, allowing just 178 yards per game.

While the Jets defense has been celebrated over the first four games their offense could be seeing a boost on Monday as Braylon Edwards makes his debut after being traded by the Cleveland Browns. Edwards will provide rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez an instant deep threat and could help open the New York running game, an area of their offense that ranks 16th in the NFL.

New York currently sits atop the AFC East following the New England Patriots loss on Sunday and a win on Monday would put them a game up in the division and with a win over the Pats already on their record it would give them a clear advantage. New York follows Monday night’s game with the Buffalo Bills and Oakland Raiders, two of the worst teams in the league.

Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.
