Astronomy.FM Announces AAPOD of the Month Winner!
Astronomy.FM announced September's Amateur Astronomy Picture of the Month (AAPOD) this evening on their Space Pirate Radio astronomy program. The winner, Paulo Lobao, of Portugal, will receive a 60-minutes account with Global-Rent-A-Scope, to be used on any of their worldwide astro-imaging systems.
Lobao's winning image, "LCROSS and Asteroid (3731) Hancock Rendez-vous," is an animated feature using eleven 90-second images acquired with a Takahashi FS102NSV + QSI 532WS-M1 + Baader Clear filter.
Runners-up of this month's competition were also announced on tonight's show. In second place, Dave Evans' "Daytime Astronomy: Moon in Full Daylight" focuses on the Moon's south pole region; while the third place winner, "Mel 15 in the Heart Nebula Ha+OIII," displays remarkable team work by Donato and Gianluca Ciraci of Cava dei Tirreni, South America.
