The award was in recognition of his role as the Founder and first President of SABA and the support, mentorship and encouragement he has provided to SABA in the last 20 years. SABA Northern California was the first chapter to be established in the U.S. and it led to formation of 25 SABA chapters across North America with over 6,000 members. In commenting on the award, Mukesh stated: “SABA has come a long way from where it was 20 years ago. I could not even dream 20 years ago that many South Asians will join the legal profession and that they will be so successful. Today we have South Asian judges, attorney general of California, lawyers who are senior staffers with members of Congress, Secretaries, White House, lawyers who are partners, managing partners of major international law firms, lawyers who are general counsel and senior in house counsel of major multinational corporations, lawyers doing high impact work in various positions with the government and public interest organizations.”

In a press release issued by SABA, Congressman Honda was quoted as saying, “As a proud Representative of California's 17th District, I know the invaluable contributions the South Asian community has made to the fabric of our nation.
