The Chicago Blackhawks (22-27-7) scored three goals in the first period to hold a 3-0 lead and held on to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets (22-29-5) 5-4. Martin Havlat had a goal and two assists for the Blackhawks while Peter Bondra and Bryan Smolinski each added a goal and an assist.
Henrik Zetterberg scored two goals and added two assists as the Detroit Red Wings (36-15-6) pounced on the Calgary Flames (29-19-8) 7-4. Detroit jumped to a 4-0 lead and were up 6-1 after the second period. Nicklas Lidstrom had a pair of assists for the Red Wings while Jason Williams, Tomas Holmstrom, and Mathieu Schneider each had a goal and an assist.
The Edmonton Oilers (28-24-4) fell behind 1-0 in the first period and then scored five unanswered goals to beat the Atlanta Thrashers (30-20-9) 5-1. Ryan Smyth tied the score at 1-1 for the Oilers in the first while Petr Sykora had three assists and Ales Hemsky added a pair of assists in the win.
