“Ladies and gentlemen, we are The Police and we’re back,” and with that statement Sting, Andy and Stewart marked their return to the music world. For the first time since their 2003 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the trio performed together and reminded the Grammy Awards audience why they were one of the most influential bands of the late 1970s into the early 80s.
Playing their widely popular reggae-infused classic “Roxanne” their Grammy performance was meant to celebrate their 30th anniversary of the band forming. Of course six years after forming they split and then spent more than 20-years apart but 30 years is 30 years.
While Sting was more than capable of handling the high notes in the groups first big hit, drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers proved themselves in touring form. And that’s what the people are waiting to hear.
The Police are expected to announce their plans for a reunion tour on Monday, but cities and dates may not be revealed for some time.
