The Police have confirmed that they will reunite and begin a world tour beginning May 28th in Vancouver, Canada. The announcement comes one day after the trio performed at the 49th annual Grammy Awards and brought back to life a sound that has influenced countless musicians.
Among the spots Sting, Andy Summers, and Stewart Copeland will hit will be this year’s Bonnaroo Festival on July 16th, Fenway Park in Boston on July 28th nad a pair of performances at Madison Square Garden on August 1 and 3.
Other North American cities that have been confirmed include Seattle, Denver, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Dallas, New Orleans, St. Louis, Toronto and Montreal.
The Police reunited for the Grammy Awards as a 30th anniversary celebration. While they formed in 1977 and quickly became one of the most recognizable bands in the world their time together was relatively short. By 1983 they had split apart and only reunited once prior to their Grammy Awards performance. In 2003 the threesome performed three songs at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
Having collected six Grammys and five #1 albums The Police have long been considered one of the greatest bands of the past three decades. Their singles often climbed the charts and landed in the top ten and they earned a prized reputation for their high energy concerts.
Tickets for the Vancouver show will go on sale Saturday, Feb. 17 with future ticket sales being announced soon. Below is a list of announced shows The Police will be playing in North America. According to Sting.com the tour is scheduled to hit the UK and Europe, including appearances in Holland, Germany, Italy and France with additional countries to be announced. Additional dates in Mexico, South America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand are anticipated
