Harry Reems, a popular 70s porn star who appeared alongside Linda Lovelace in Deep Throat, has died. Reems, 65, passed away at a Salt Lake City, Utah hospital on Tuesday. He had been battling pancreatic cancer. No other details on his death were immediately available. Reems is survived by his wife, Jeanne Sterrett Reems.
Reems broke in to the porn business by accident in 1972 when the original lead actor in Deep Throat stepped down. Reems, who was working on set as the lighting director, took over the role of Dr. Young. Four years later he was convicted of obscenity for the role, but the conviction was eventually overturned. "I only did the movies as a hoot. I don't feel guilty of any crime. I certainly don't want to be a convicted felon,” he told People magazine at the time.
He went on to star in dozens of porn films, including Devil in Miss Jones, Wet Rainbow and Sherlick Holmes. Reems left the business in the late 80s and eventually became a successful real estate agent in Park City, Utah.
