Future Electronics Offers Thermocouple and Strain Gauge Reference Design from Intersil and Renesas

Future Electronics, a global leading distributor of electronic components, is pleased to announce availability of the Intersil and Renesas Thermocouple and Strain Gauge Reference Design, which illustrates two sensor applications using Intersil's precision and power products coupled with the Renesas RL78/G13 microprocessor.

This reference design is a practical demonstration of sensor solutions for thermocouple, pressure and strain gauges for industrial, medical and data acquisition applications. These solutions include a working sensor, signal conditioning circuits, and a Renesas microcontroller.

The reference design and evaluation platform is intended for evaluation by circuit design engineers for early prototype development. The demo platform consists of two separate boards attached by a PMOD connector. The strain gauge circuit is flexible for bridge sensors from 5V to +40V and allows for internal voltage translation into the data converter with noise accuracy to 21.6-bits noise-free (ENOB) using the 24-bit Delta Sigma. The thermocouple solution is capable of handling temperatures from -200°C to +1250°C using the isolation wire to accuracy of ±0.75%. The analog signal is processed by a Renesas RL78/G13 MCU. Software interface is included for evaluation purposes.
