Spread The Purple, a New Jersey financial aidorganization, is announcing its new, updated 5K Run for Warmth date of September 2, 2013. The new run date is set to allow for further vendor support and allow more time for runners not only to continue their training, but also to take advantage of race-related discounts all the way through September.
The event will still take place at Johnson Park, 1030 River Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854.
The fundraiser is an ongoing initiative led by Spread the Purple to raise funds for the Homeowners Home Heating Oil Fund, which is a scholarship program designed to supply households with heat in light of increasing oil prices.
“We’ve recently had a surge in vendors that have shown interest in participating and supporting us with our cause,” says Latisha McDougal, Board Officer of Spread the Purple. “In order for us to make this a successful charity event, we thought it would be in our best interest to push the date to September. This will allow our newest sponsors, runners, and volunteers to better prepare.”
Interested runners can register in advance for the run at https://www.signmeup.com/site/online-event-registration/89647/SMUCalendar. Spread the Purple also welcomes volunteers and spectators, and the race is open to all ages.
Check-in time is from 8:30AM-9:30AM EST, and the race goes from 10AM- 1PM EST. Pre-registered participants will receive a bib and racer T-shirt; and after the race, runners can relax to music while sipping on refreshments and snacking on provided food.
“We also want runners to take advantage of the discounts our very generous sponsors are offering our registered participants until September,” says McDougal.
Spread The Purple provides services to financially assist working class families by helping them find financial grants and aid within the state and country. It provides real estate grants that include short term loans, home improvement grants and direct assistance for home improvements.
It also offers educational grants, medical assistance, access to food and clothing banks, free dental care, foster care, assistance for seniors raising children and more.
The organization, established in 2006, is named after the color purple -- a color largely associated with power, nobility and wealth that, in past times, was not accessible to most households. Despite historical trends, Spread the Purple works to make resources accessible to a larger spectrum of demographics, no matter the earned income.
