The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus star who was accused by the British actor of cracking on to his spouse at last week’s Pride of Britain Awards is adamant he behaved like a gentleman at the event, which recognises brave and outstanding achievements of UK citizens.
In a blog posting on his official site Vernetroyer.com, he wrote: Numerous blogs and magazines are reporting that I hit on some guy’s wife at the Pride of Britain Awards last week in London. This so-called-actor named Danny Dyer gave some rude quotes about me.
First off, I wouldn’t know who you were if you were standing in front of me. Second, I would never disrespect someone by hitting on their wife. At the end of the day, don’t use my name to get your name in the press. Don’t use such poor judgement.
Verne, 40, also refuted 32-year-old Danny’s claims he spent most of the night on his phone.
He said: I do care about the recipients of the Pride of Britain Awards, why else would I have attended this event after I just completed 12 gruelling hours of international press. I had to get up at 8am the next morning for more press and the premier of my film which is why I left around 10pm (4 hours after I got there).
A spokesman for Verne added: Danny Dyer's past has seen this behavior before. Obviously he has a project coming out that he needs publicity for so he's doing what he can to garnish attention by mentioning Verne.
What Dyer doesn't remember about the Pride of Britain Awards is that he and his wife made it a point during the event to leave their seats and introduce themselves to Verne. Verne had three people sitting between himself and Dyer and his wife. Nice try Danny Dyer.
