The Spice Girls are set to launch their own musical in London’s West End.

Singer Geri Halliwell wants to bring the five girls’ rags-to-riches story to life on the stage in a two-hour “pop extravaganza”.

Her former bandmates, Emma Bunton, Victoria Beckham, Mel B and Mel C, are backing the plans after a secret meeting at Londons top restaurant Nobu.

Producer Geri also wants the girls to help her find five unknown actresses to play them in the blockbuster production.

A source told Britains Daily Mirror newspaper: “The project is Geri's baby really but all the girls are backing it.

"The idea is for five relatively unknown actresses to take the parts and hopefully the girls will each have a say in who is cast."

The Spice Girls, who formed in 1994, last performed together in Toronto, Canada, in February 2008.

The news comes after Mel B revealed the girls have been planning a reunion and are desperate to sing together again.

She said: “It's really, really exciting. I can't wait to be singing with the girls again!

“We are definitely going to be doing something together again soon. We're actually working on it right now.”
