Colorado Boy Floats Away in Homemade Balloon Aircraft

A 6-year-old Colorado boy, who has been identified by media outlets as Falcon Heene, climbed into a homemade balloon aircraft his parents were building and is now floating about 7,000 feet in the air. According to reports, a sibling saw their brother climb into the contraption and untie the rope that anchored it at their parent’s home in Fort Collins.

The Mylar balloon, which resembles a flying saucer, is 20 feet long and 5 feet high, and is heading eastward.

The Federal Aviation Administration is attempting to track the helium balloon on radar. Authorities are unsure of how to rescue the boy, who they say could have fallen out of the balloon.

ABC reports that Falcon is the son of Richard and Naomi Heene, who have appeared on the reality show Wife Swap.
