A homemade balloon aircraft set adrift by a 6-year-old
Colorado boy landed Thursday afternoon south of Prospect Springs. The boy,
identified as Falcon Heene, was believed to be inside the helium balloon, but authorities
found it empty.
A sibling saw Falcon climb into the contraption and untie
the rope that anchored it at their parent’s home in Fort Collins Thursday morning.
The Mylar balloon floated away, reaching about 7,000 feet. It is unclear why
and how the balloon landed.
Authorities say the door to the 20 foot long, 5 foot high
balloon was unlocked, so it is possible the child fell out.
Falcon is the son of Robert and Naomi Heene, who have
appeared on the reality show Wife Swap.
Police are now searching for Falcon.
