Leonardo DiCaprio will be partnering with Warner Bros. to bring the Enron scandal to the big screen. DiCaprio, who has worked with Warner Bros. in “The Departed” and “Blood Diamond,” will star in and produce the film based on the book “Conspiracy of Fools” written by New York Times reporter Kurt Eichenwald.
DiCaprio will portray a newly hired employee at the Houston-based energy giant who begins to discover the unethical and illegal practices that led to the company’s descent into bankruptcy in 2001.
It is estimated that the fall of Enron removed $60 billion in market value, over $2 billion in pension plans and 5,600 jobs.
Leonardo DiCaprio is nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in “Blood Diamond.” DiCaprio was nominated for an Oscar Award in 2005 for his work in “The Aviator” and in 1994 for “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.”
