American Idol Heats up with Hollywood Auditions

American Idol is heading into their Hollywood auditions tonight and things could get a bit interesting for viewers. The 172 contestants that received the golden ticket to continue their dream from their host city audition will be trimmed down to 40 in one night. Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul will be even more critical than in years now that they have one less day to work with.

In the past American Idol has spread the Hollywood auditions over two nights but, as producer Nigel Lythgoe stated “There wasn’t that much that occurred in Hollywood that warranted two episodes. We normally stretch it out too far.”

Viewers of Tuesday night’s American Idol episode will get a chance to watch as the contestants go through rehearsal schedules and group auditions in an attempt to make it to the next round.
