After the Pixies broke up in 1993, bassist Kim Deal focused her attentions on her side project with twin sister Kelley, The Breeders. Producing NME’s Single of the Year, the Last Splash single,“Cannonball”, propelled The Breeders to international acclaim in August of 1993. Hailed by critics as “effervescent”, “blistering”, even “incoherent”, Last Splash went platinum by June 1994 and by September -- the band took an indefinite hiatus.
To celebrate the album’s anniversary in 2013, The Breeders are reuniting and performing Last Splash in it’s entirety with the record’s original lineup, including violinist Carrie Bradley, who played on the album and as well as on several Breeders tours. This celebratory tour will include a show at Atlanta’s legendary Variety Playhouse on May 15th.
4AD will release LSXX, a deluxe anniversary edition of Last Splash, on 23 April 2013.
