New Jersey Nets all-everything point guard Jason Kidd will not be playing in this year’s NBA All-Star Game on Feb. 18 in Las Vegas. Bothered by a lower back strain, Kidd missed Tuesday’s game against San Antonio and is expected to miss Wednesday’s contest against the Toronto Raptors.
Kidd was chosen to represent the Eastern Conference after averaging 14.3 points, 8 rebounds and 8.7 assists through the first half of the season.
The decision by Jason Kidd not to play will put NBA commissioner David Stern back on the replacement hunt. Stern has had to find replacements for Steve Nash, Yao Ming, Carlos Boozer, and Allen Iverson of the Western Conference squad.
With Kidd sidelined the door is open for Joe Johnson, Michael Redd, Ben Gordon, or Jamal Crawford to earn a spot on the roster.
