Due to his sudden decision to enter rehab, Cory Monteith will not be available to shoot the last two episodes of the current fourth season of Glee. Deadline.com reports the episodes will be filmed without Monteith. His absence will be written in to the storyline of his character Finn, but it is unclear how.
Monteith voluntarily entered treatment for substance abuse over the weekend. It is not known where he is receiving treatment. "He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery,” his rep said.
Fox offered their support to Monteith in a statement. "Cory is a beloved member of the Glee family and we fully support his decision to seek treatment," the network said. “Everyone at the show wishes him well and looks forward to his return.”
Glee creator Ryan Murphy Tweeted his support. "I am so proud of Cory Monteith and love and support him 100 [percent]," he wrote.
Monteith’s Glee costar and real life girlfriend Lea Michele also spoke out. "I am grateful and proud he made this decision,” she told People magazine.
Monteith has a history of addiction problems. He became addicted to drugs in high school, and at age 16 dropped out of school. The actor entered rehab for the first time at age 19 after his family staged an intervention.
