College Football Scores: Purdue Boilermakers Stun #7 Ohio State Buckeyes in Big Ten Action

Joey Elliott was 31/50 passing for 281 yards and a pair of touchdowns, Keith Smith had 125 yards receiving on 12 catches and Aaron Valentine had 97 yards receiving and two TDs and the Purdue Boilermakers (2-5, 1-2) forced five turnovers to stun the #7 Ohio State Buckeyes (5-2, 3-1) 26-18 in Big Ten action on Saturday.

The Boilermakers were the first on the board as Carson Wiggs booted a 32-yard field goal in the opening quarter but the Buckeyes responded on their first drive and when Terrelle Pryor crossed the goal line from 6-yards out Ohio State jumped in front 7-3.

While Purdue continued to move the ball on offense they couldn’t find a way to punch the ball into the endzone and had to settle for a pair of Wiggs field goals in the second quarter but that was enough for the Boilermakers to lead 9-7 at the break.

Things began to open up for Purdue in the third quarter though and Elliott found his touch hitting Valentine on a 15-yard touchdown toss to push the advantage to 16-7. Elliott and Valentine hooked up again later in the frame on a 23-yard TD and Purdue was in control 23-7.

Ohio State finally put points back up early in the fourth when Aaron Pettrey kicked a 24-yard field goal but Purdue answered with Wiggs’ fourth field goal of the game to push the advantage back to 16 points. The Buckeyes managed to find the endzone midway through the final quarter after Pryor hit DeVier Posey on a 25-yard touchdown pass. After stopping Purdue’s offense the Buckeyes had one more shot at tying the game but they failed to convert on a fourth down and Purdue took over and killed the clock.
