FIFA World Rankings Place World Cup Champs Italy Above Brazil

It was a good run for Brazil but Wednesday’s FIFA World Rankings ended the Samba Boys 4 ½ year stretch as the world’s number one side and elevated the World Cup Champions Italy atop the soccer list.

The Brazilians fate was sealed after they dropped a 2-0 match to Portugal last week.

For the Italians, it is the first time they have assumed the FIFA number one ranking since 1993. They accumulated 1,562 points, 22 points more than Brazil.

There were no major changes to the FIFA World Rankings with the exception of Nigeria who dropped from number 9 to number 36. The Czech Republic claimed the Nigerians old spot and Spain cracked the top 10.

The United States climbed three more spots to land at number 28 on the FIFA World Rankings.
