NFL Scores: Brett Favre Leads Fourth Quarter Comeback as Minnesota Vikings Beat Baltimore Ravens to Stay Perfect

Brett Favre was 21/29 for 278 yards passing and three touchdowns, Adrian Peterson rushed for 143 yards on 22 carries, Sidney Rice had 173 yards receiving on six catches and the Minnesota Vikings (6-0) got a late field goal from Ryan Longwell to edge the Baltimore Ravens (3-3) 33-31 on Sunday.

Favre came out firing for the Vikings and had his team in front 14-0 in the opening frame after a 19-yard touchdown pass to Visanthe Shiancoe and a 4-yard scoring toss to Bernard Berrian. Despite the quick start the Vikings offense stalled the rest of the half but the Ravens could only manage a 29-yard field goal from Steven Hauschka and the score was 14-3 at the break.

Longwell pushed the Minnesota advantage back to 14 in the third quarter when he hit from 40-yards out but the Ravens responded and found the endzone for the first time on a 22-yard run from Ray Rice to climb to within 20-10. Longwell would tack on another field goal for the Vikings late in the frame and Minnesota carried a 23-10 lead heading into the fourth.

It looked like the Vikings would cruise after Favre hooked up with Shiancoe on a one-yard touchdown toss but the Ravens answered with a touchdown of their own as Joe Flacco hit Mark Clayton on a 32-yard score to stay within ten. Minnesota once again had to settle for a Longwell field goal on their next drive and Baltimore countered with another touchdown as Flacco hit Derrick Mason on a 12-yard strike to pull to within 30-24. Less than two minutes later the Ravens were celebrating their first lead of the game as Ray Rice went 33-yards for a touchdown and Baltimore was in front 31-30 with 3:37 left on the clock.

That was plenty of time for Favre who hooked up with Rice on a 58-yard pass which set up Longwell’s fourth field goal of the game to give Minnesota a 33-31 lead with 1:56 left. Flacco managed to move the Ravens down the field and had his team in perfect position to win the game in the closing seconds but Hauschka pushed his 44-yard field goal attempt wide left and the Vikings had the win.
