NFL Scores: Drew Brees Tosses 4 TDs as New Orleans Saints Trounce NY Giants in Battle of Unbeatens

Drew Brees was 23/30 for 369 yards passing and four touchdowns, Marques Colston had 166 yards receiving and a touchdown on eight catches and Pierre Thomas had 72 yards on the ground on 15 carries as the New Orleans Saints (5-0) trounced the New York Giants (5-1) 48-27 on Sunday.

The Saints offense was dominant from the outset as they jumped to a 14-0 advantage in the first quarter after Mike Bell scored on a 2-yard run and Brees hooked up with Jeremy Shockey on a one-yard toss. New York managed to get on the board in the closing seconds of the frame when Lawrence Tynes connected on a 49-yard field goal but the Giants defense had no answer for the New Orleans offensive machine.

New Orleans put another touchdown on the board in the opening minutes of the second quarter when Brees hit Robert Meachem on a 36-yard TD strike and after an extra point was blocked the Saints lead stood at 20-3. Ahmad Bradshaw pulled the Giants to with 20-10 after a 10-yard touchdown run but the Saints answered as Brees hit Lance Moore on a 12-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 17 points. Eli Manning pulled the Giants back to within ten when he found Mario Manningham on a 15-yard touchdown pass and it looked like New York might have some momentum heading into the half but New Orleans shot that hope down when Reggie Bush snuck into the endzone on a 7-yard run around the corner with nine seconds left in the half.

It got uglier for the Giants in the third quarter as New Orleans pushed their lead to 41-17 late in the frame when Brees hit Marques Colston on a 12-yard touchdown. The Giants got a field goal from Tynes early in the fourth but the Saints offense continued to roll and Heath Evans scored on a 2-yard run to give New Orleans its largest lead at 48-20. NY got a late touchdown when David Carr, in for Manning, hit Hakeem Nicks on a 37-yard score but that did little to comfort the Giants who dropped their first game of the year.
