San Diego attorney Frederick M. Dudek of the Dudek Law Firm, APC participates annually in the Bike MS Bay to Bay Tour, which raises money for research of the autoimmune disease multiple sclerosis. This year’s dates have just been announced, and the event is set to be held on October 19 and 20, 2013. Riders of all abilities are welcome to participate in the 30 to 150 mile routes. Bike trails will be lined with rest stops, bike mechanics, support vehicles, plenty of food, as well as a festival afterwards. This will be a great opportunity to tour the scenic bayside of Southern California, as well as raise money for a great cause.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease in which an individual’s immune system attacks the covering of nerve cells, particularly in the brain and spinal cord. The loss of this covering, called myelin, prevents nerves from effectively transmitting signals throughout the body. The name multiple sclerosis derives from the multiple scars on the brain and spine left by these attacks. There is no cure for MS, but the millions of dollars raised by the Bay to Bay Tour go toward trying to find a cure, as well as new treatment options for those suffering.
“It is a really rewarding experience participating in the Tour every year,” said Dudek. “I love cycling, but it is even better knowing that I am making a positive impact in the lives of individuals with MS, and at the same time, having so much fun with the other cyclists.”
