West Virginia Authorities: Carbon Monoxide Likely Killed Shain Gandee

Authorities in West Virginia have ruled out foul play in the death of MTV reality star Shain Gandee. Kanawha County Commissioner Kent Carper tells People magazine evidence indicates Gandee, his uncle David Gandee, and friend Robert Myers all died of carbon monoxide poisoning. All three men were found dead Monday in Shain’s Bronco, which was partially submerged in mud alongside a dirt road in Sissonville. Authorities believe the mud stopped fumes from being able to escape through the tailpipe.

"Foul play has been ruled out. Carbon monoxide poisoning is the likely probable cause of death, pending official results from the state of West Virginia medical examiner's office. State law requires an autopsy,” says Carper.

In a recent Facebook post, Shain’s cousin Ashley said the family may hold a funeral over the weekend.  "Nothing is confirmed but they are thinking Saturday," she wrote. "So private or public hasn't been decided. I will try to keep everyone updated :(."

Shain, 21, was with Ashley in Crown City, Ohio on Saturday to help her open Gandee’s General Store. “We had the grand opening with him, smiling, signing autographs, and just being his fun self,” Lewis tells RadarOnline.com. “We actually had people here from Texas, from Dayton, Ohio, from Pennsylvania. People drove hundreds of miles just to meet him because he was such a lovable guy.”

“I’m completely devastated and I know that his entire family is too. It’s just totally unexpected,” continues Lewis. “I’ve talked to Shain’s dad, mom and aunt, and they’re not holding up well. They’re really taking it hard and just crying as any mother would, to find your son passed away so unexpectedly.”
