West Virginia authorities confirmed Tuesday that an autopsy determined MTV reality star Shain Gandee died of carbon monoxide poisoning. His death was ruled an accident. Gandee was 21.
“It was carbon monoxide. It was accidental,” Kanawha County Sheriff's Office Cpl. B.D. Humphreys with the told the New York Daily News.
Gandee was found dead in his Ford Bronco Monday along with his uncle David Gandee and friend Robert Myers. Three men apparently decided to sleep in the Bronco after it became stuck in mud, and left the vehicle running for warmth not realizing toxic fumes leaked into the car because mud blocked the tailpipe.
The men were last seen early Sunday morning at a bar in Sissonville, West Virginia. They were reported missing on Sunday and found by a friend on Monday.
According to reports, a public funeral service for the Buckwild star will be held on Monday. Funeral costs are reportedly being taken care of by Buckwild producers. MTV has suspended filming on season 2.
