Soon after his 20-year-old son Earvin Johnson III came out as gay by stepping out with his boyfriend, Magic Johnson released a statement of support. The former Los Angeles Lakers star, who has long been a supporter of the LGBT community, said he is “very proud” of EJ.
"Cookie and I love E.J. and support him in every way," Johnson, 53, told TMZ. "We're very proud of him."
Current Lakers star Kobe Bryant then voiced his support of both Magic and EJ. “Of course Magic is supportive of and loves his son. Why should anyone be surprised?” Bryant told TMZ. “What I can’t tolerate is a lack of tolerance.”
EJ is Johnson’s oldest child with Cookie, his wife of 22 years. The couple is also parents to 18-year-old daughter Elisa. Johnson is dad of 32-year-old son Andre from his relationship with Melissa Mitchell.
