John Clark Gable, the youngest child of film legend Clark Gable, was arrested in Malibu, California Tuesday afternoon after an accident involving 6 other cars and a telephone pole. He was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run.
According to reports, the 52-year-old was driving along Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu Pier when he hit a van and continued driving. The driver of the van called 911 as he followed Gable. Gable then crashed into 5 parked cars and a telephone pole. Sherriff’s Sgt. Phil Brooks said Gable appeared "to be on drugs."
Witness Geno Bahena told reporters Gable seemed like he was in shock. "It took him a few seconds to get out of his truck," said Bahena. "And finally, when he got out of his truck – I guess he was in shock or something – he just fell on the floor."
No one was injured in the accident. Gable posted $15,000 bail and was released from jail around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday. He later spoke to TMZ and denied driving under the influence. Telling the celebrity news outlet that he “absolutely was not drinking,” Gable blamed a blackout for the accident. Gable claimed he lost consciousness after getting cut off by the van. He also cited his history of brain aneurysms as a possible cause for his blackout. Gable had had surgery for two aneurysms in 2006 and 2009. He plans to see his doctor about Tuesday’s blackout.
