Plum Organics has issued a
recall for some of their baby food products due to possible botulism
contamination. The company issued the recall Tuesday morning.
The recall includes Apple
and Carrot Baby Food in Portable Pouches with the best by date of May 21, 2010
and marked with the number ‘890180001221’ on the bottom of the package. The
pouches were sold in such stores as Toys R Us and Babies R Us. Plum Organics
says the possible botulism contamination may have been caused by an “error in
formulation.”
No illness has been reported
in connection with the food. Botulism is a lethal toxin that causes flaccid
paralysis of muscles. Symptoms in infants include poor muscle tone, they appear
lethargic, have trouble eating, and become constipated.
