The actress - who plays internet blogger and mother-of-two Eliza Welch in upcoming comedy movie 'Motherhood' insists people are too quick to point out the things women with children do wrong.
She explained to The Eagle Tribune newspaper: Motherhood is a thing that can be terribly underappreciated. People are very willing to heap criticism on mothers.
You don’t hear that much about the successes of mothers. Mothers are unsung heroes and I think there is a very beautiful thing in making a movie about a mother.
Uma who has 11-year-old daughter Maya and son Levon, seven, with ex-husband Ethan Hawke didnt realise how much she needed to mature until she had children.
She said: I started growing up, or at least realised how far I had to go, when I became a mother. And then there's the beauty of watching them grow up.
Uma, 39, has previously admitted she struggled to find herself when she had kids, much like her character Eliza.
She revealed: Well, her circumstances are different, but her concerns are the same as mine. Trying to be true to yourself as an individual and as a woman and be a loving mother and grow and find yourself - that's the kind of thing we all deal with. I thought that was really universal.
