In the Larry King Live interview in which he gave his
parent’s balloon hoax away, Falcon Heene made another shocking comment. With the
family lined up in front of the camera, Wolf Blitzer, who filled in for King,
introduced himself. Richard and Mayumi Heene instructed their three sons to say
‘Hello to Wolf.’ While two of the boys said a shy Hello, 6-year-old Falcon
looked up at his father and asked, “Who the hell is Wolf?”
Later in the interview, Falcon revealed the balloon scare
was all a hoax intended to land his family a reality show. “You guys said we
did this for the show,” Falcon said when his father asked him why he didn’t come
out of hiding when they called his name.
The hoax unfolded last Thursday when the Heene family’s
homemade Mylar balloon was set adrift. Richard and Mayumi called authorities
saying Falcon was inside. One of Falcon’s siblings told police he saw his
brother get inside the balloon and untie the rope that anchored it to their
home.
The balloon floated away, reaching about 7,000 feet
before it landed. Police didn’t find the boy inside the balloon and feared he
could have fallen out. A ground search was launched and Falcon was later found hiding
in the family’s attic. He initially said he hid because he feared getting in
trouble for untying the balloon.
Richard and Mayumi Heene could be charged with two
felonies, conspiracy and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. An
attorney for the couple says they wish to avoid “the public spectacle and
humiliation” of being arrested in front of their 3 sons, so they will turn
themselves in when the time comes.
