UCLA Bruins escape close call, Indiana Hoosiers fall. Oregon Ducks fall lame and the Arizona Wildcats seem tame.
The #5 UCLA Bruins (22-3) used an 18-2 run in the second half to avoid an upset and beat the Arizona State Sun Devils (6-19) 67-61. Arron Afflalo led the Bruins with 24 points and Darren Collison added 18 points in the win. Arizona State held a 10 point advantage midway through the second half but UCLA woke up offensively and stepped up their defensive pressure to take control of the game. The win improved the Bruins Pac-10 record to 11-2, ½ a game ahead of Washington State. The Sun Devils dropped to 0-14 in conference play.
The California Golden Bears (13-12) built an 8 point halftime lead and held on to beat the #15 Oregon Ducks (20-6) 63-61 in Pac-10 action. Ryan Anderson finished with 18 points for the Bears while Patrick Christopher ended the night with 16 points. Cal moved to 5-8 in the conference while Oregon continued to fall further from the top and are now 8-6.
Lodrick Stewart scored 26 points and Nick Young finished with 2 points and 7 rebounds as the #22 USC Trojans (19-7) beat the #19 Arizona Wildcats (17-8) 80-75. The Trojans shot 50 percent from the field and hit 46 percent of their three-point attempts. Chase Budinger finished with 19 points and 6 rebounds in the Arizona loss. The win moves the Trojans to 9-4 in the Pac-10 while Arizona fell to 8-6.
David Teague scored 32 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to give the Purdue Boilermakers (17-7) an 81-68 win over the #24 Indiana Hoosiers (17-9). Carl Landry added 22 points and 11 rebounds for Purdue who moved to 6-6 in the Big Ten while Indiana dropped to 7-4. DJ White led the Hoosiers with 20 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.
