Cameron Diaz has accepted a “substantial” settlement agreement from American Media Inc., for claims published in the National Enquirer that the 34-year-old actress had carried on an affair with a married producer.
The magazine published an article on its web site in May 2005 alleging that Diaz and a producer on her MTV show, “Trippin’,” had been involved in a “smooching session.”
The National Enquirer issued a statement read in court apologizing for the claims and attorney Sam Howard said the magazine “entirely accepts that the allegations were without foundation and ought never to have been published.”
Diaz had settled a lawsuit in July 2005 with The Sun after they published the same story.
Cameron Diaz recently completed work on "Shrek the Third" which will feature the voices of Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, Antonio Banderas, Justin Timberlake, and John Cleese.
Diaz has been nominated for four Golden Globe Awards for her work in “There’s Something About Mary,” “Being John Malkovich,” “Vanilla Sky,” and “Gangs of New York.”
