Former U.S. vice president Al Gore has continued on his crusade to educate the public on the dangers facing the global environment. Gore has spearheaded a project that will bring some of the world’s most popular musicians on stage in seven separate concerts aimed at promoting awareness surrounding climate control.
The seven seperate concerts will fall under the headline Live Earth - teh Concert for a Climate in Crisis.
Gore, along with actress Cameron Diaz and rapper/producer Pharrell Williams revealed plans for the incredible undertaking on Thursday. A long time advocate of global initiatives, Gore stated "We have to get the message of urgency and hope out. In order to solve the climate crisis, we have to reach billions of people."
As part of getting the message out, a concert will be staged on all seven continents on July 7. No word yet on the artists signing up for Antarctica.
Among the cities announced as hosts for the event are Shanghai, Johannesburg, London, and Sydney. Brazil and the United States will each stage a concert but the city hosting the event has yet to be determined.
Red Hot Chili Peppers and John Mayer have already confirmed they would participate in the concert. Other acts will include Snow Patrol, Duran Duran, Damien Rice, Akon, Black Eyed Peas, Foo Fighters, Snoop Dogg, Lenny Kravitz, Kelly Clarkson, Fall Out Boy, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Bloc Party, Sheryl Crow and Korn. There will be a total of 100 acts for the Live Earth event
Gore was recently nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for his involvement in climate education and his film, “An Inconvenient Truth” is up for two Oscars.
