The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire won’t hit theaters until November, but fans were given a special sneak peak of the highly anticipated film on Sunday at the MTV Movie Awards. Presented by Liam Hemsworth, who plays Katniss’s best friend Gale Hawthorne, the 2 minute and 26 second video shows the aftermath of Katniss and Peta’s joint win of the 74th Hunger Games. The ominous President Snow, fearing the loss of control in the 12 districts, declares that Katniss “has to be eliminated.”
"She has become a beacon of hope to them. She has to be eliminated,” President Snow, played by Donald Sutherland, tells Head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee, played by Philip Seymour Hoffman.
“I agree she should die,” Heavensbee replies. “But in the right way, at the right time.”
Jennifer Lawrence reprises her role as Katniss, while Josh Hutcherson also returns to play Peta Malark. Woody Harrelson returns as Katniss and Peta’s mentor Haymitch Abernath, and Elizabeth Banks appears again as Effie Trinket.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will hit theaters on November 22.
The Hunger Games films are based on a book trilogy by Suzanne Collins.
