The Basketball Hall of Fame announced its list of 15 finalists for induction on Friday to coincide with the NBA All-Star weekend festivities.
Heading the list of this year’s finalists are Dick Vitale, Phil Jackson, Chris Mullin. Adrian Dantley, Eddie Sutton and Roy Williams.
Vitale accumulated a 78-30 record as the head coach at the University of Detroit from 1973 thru 1977. He then took the head coaching job for the Detroit Pistons and went 30-52 in his first season. Vitale lasted 12 games into the 1979-80 season before he was fired. Vitale then entered the world of broadcasting and truly made a name for himself covering college basketball.
Phil Jackson played for the New York Knicks and won an NBA title in 1973. He became the head coach of the Chicago Bulls in 1989 and won six NBA Championships in ten years. He is currently the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers and has won three NBA titles with L.A.
Chris Mullin was named Big East player of the year three times while playing college basketball at St. Johns. He became a five-time all-star in the NBA over a 16-year career. Mullin won two gold medals in the Olympics (1984, 1992). Mullin is currently the Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Golden State Warriors.
The Class of 2007 will be announced April 2 during the Final Four in Atlanta.
