President Barack Obama Calls Boston Marathon Bombings A “Cowardly” Act Of Terrorism

President Barack Obama condemned the Boston Marathon bombings as a “cowardly act” on Tuesday at a press conference. Obama said investigators still have not determined a motive or named any suspects, but promised those responsible for the attack will be brought to justice.

"This was a heinous and cowardly act and given what we now know about what took place, the FBI is investigating it as an act of terrorism. Anytime bombs are used to target innocent civilians, it is an act of terror,” he said.

"What we don't yet know however is who carried out this attack or why – whether it was planned and executed by a terrorist organization, foreign or domestic, or was the act of a malevolent individual,” the President continued.

"It will take time to follow every lead and determine what happened. But we will find out. We will find whoever harmed our citizens and we will bring them to justice," he added.

Three people were killed and 176 others were wounded in the twin explosions near the finish line. Hospital officials say 17 people are in critical condition and 41 people are in serious condition. Injuries range from severed limbs to shrapnel embedded in skin. Dr. George Velmahos, head of Massachusetts General Hospital’s trauma care, said nail-like objects and pellets were found in victims. One man lost both legs in one of the explosions. Two of the dead have been identified as 29-year-old Krystle Campbell and 8-year-old Martin Richard.
