CNN is reporting that federal authorities have made an arrest in the Boston Marathon bombings. Citing a federal law enforcement source, CNN says the suspect was identified through two videos filmed on the day of the explosion. One video was from a department store and the other was filmed by a Boston TV station. No other details were immediately available.
"We will go to the ends of the Earth to identify the subject or subjects who are responsible for this despicable crime -- and we will do everything we can to bring them to justice," FBI special agent Richard DesLauriers said earlier this week. “Our mission is clear: to bring to justice those responsible... The American public wants answers. The citizens of the city of Boston and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts want and deserve answers."
The rumored arrest comes shortly after the FBI released details on the two bombs used in the attack. One of the explosive devices was made out of a pressure cooker. It contained metal fragments like nails and ball bearings to inflict maximum damage. The other devise also included some type of metal container, but it remains unclear if it was a pressure cooker. Both bombs were reportedly hidden inside backpacks. They may have been detonated by timers.
The bombs exploded within 12 seconds of each other near the marathon’s finish line shortly before 3 p.m. on Monday. Three people were killed and more than 170 others were wounded, some seriously. Several people’s limbs were severed in the blast while others had shrapnel embedded in their bodies. The dead have been identified as 29-year-old Krystle Campbell, 8-year-old Martin Richard and Chinese national Lingzi Lu.
