Fredrik Norrena stopped all 29 shots he faced to give the Columbus Blue Jackets (23-30-5) a 3-0 shutout win over the San Jose Sharks (36-21-1). The Blue Jackets got on the board in the second period when Fredrik Modin scored five minutes into the action. Columbus scored twice more in the third with goals coming from Gilbert Brule and Sergie Fedorov. Modin, Brule and Federov each had an assist in the game as well.
The Pittsburgh Penguins (31-17-9) scored three times in the third period and held on to beat the New Jersey Devils (35-17-6) 5-4. Jarkko Ruutu scored twice for the Penguins and Sidney Crosby added a goal and an assist in the win. Pittsburgh also had two assists from Josef Melichar. The Devils were led by Brian Rafalski and Patrik Elias who each had a goal and an assist in the loss.
Manny Legace faced 19 shots and stopped each one as the St. Louis Blues (24-26-9) beat the Nashville Predators (39-17-3) 1-0. Bill Guerin scored the only goal of the game in the second period with under a minute remaining. The Blues managed to outshoot the Predators 29-19 in the win.
Matt Cooke scored midway through the third period to tie the score and Trevor Linden and Brendan Morrison scored in the shootout to lift the Vancouver Canucks (33-21-4) past the Chicago Blackhawks (22-27-9) 2-1. Patrick Sharpe scored for the Blackhawks in the opening minutes of the third to give Chicago a 1-0 lead but Cooke evened it up five minutes later. Roberto Luongo had 34 saves for the Canucks.
