AP Top 25 College Basketball Scores: Vanderbilt Shocks #1 Florida Gators

The Vanderbilt Commodores (18-8) pulled off a huge 83-70 upset against the #1 Florida Gators (24-3) and put themselves in strong position to earn a ticket to the NCAA Basketball Tournament in March.

Shan Foster and Derrick Byars each scored 24 points for the Commodores who shot 56 percent from the floor and held off any attempts by the Gators to rally. Foster scored 15 of his 24 on 5-10 shooting from beyond the three-point line.

Vanderbilt led 35-27 at the break and held strong when the Gators went on a 13-6 run to cut their lead to 52-46. Vandy responded with a 9-3 run of their own to push their advantage back up to 12 in a matter of minutes.

Florida’s Al Horford and Lee Humprhey combined to shoot just 4-17 from the field while Joakim Noah was 5-5 from the floor for 15 points.

The loss was the first in conference play for the Gators who now sit at 11-1 in the SEC. Vandy improved to 8-4 and may have sealed their ticket to March Madness with the victory.
