Amgen, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMGN) posted net income of $1.39 billion, or $1.36 a share, compared with $1.12 billion, or $1.05 a share, in the year-earlier period. Excluding various items, Amgen earned $1.49 versus $1.23. Revenue decreased 2% to $3.81 billion, from $3.88 billion. A poll of analysts by FactSet Research pegged Amgen at earnings of $1.26 on revenue of $3.78 billion. Amgen said it now sees adjusted 2009 earnings per share of $4.90 to $5.05, up from its previous range of $4.80 to $4.95.
Fifth Third Bancorp (NASDAQ:FITB) said on Thursday that it posted a third-quarter loss of $97 billion, or 20 cents a share, compared to a loss of $56 million, or 14 cents a share a year ago. The company's results were down from a profit of $882 million, or $1.15 a share in the second quarter. Analyst polled by FactSet Research had, on average, expected the Ohio-based bank to lose 21 cents a share.
JetBlue Airways Corporation (NASDAQ:JBLU) said Thursday that third-quarter earnings were $15 million, or 5 cents a share, compared to a year earlier loss of $8 million, or 3 cents a share. Adjusted earnings per share were 4 cents. Revenue was $854 million compared to $902 million. Analysts polled by FactSet Research estimated, on average, earnings per share of 5 cents and sales of $852 million.
