Kobe Bryant scored 31 points, handed out 6 assists, and had 5 rebounds while Amare Stoudemire added 29 points and 9 rebounds as the Western Conference trounced their Eastern Conference counterparts 153-132 in the NBA All-Star Game in Las Vegas.
Bryant, who was named the games MVP, scored 17 points in the first half as the Western Conference established a 79-59 lead by halftime and cruised to the big win.
Carmelo Anthony proved David Stern knew what he was doing in selecting him as a reserve. After being snubbed by the coaches in the All-Star balloting the Denver Nuggets star scored 20 points and grabbed 9 rebounds for the West.
LeBron James, last year’s All-Star game MVP, led the Eastern Conference with 28 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists but he got little help from his teammates. Dwight Howard finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds but beyond that the East seemed ready to concede the game by the second quarter.
By the end of the end of the third quarter the West had built a 31 point lead any chance of a dramatic comeback by the East was crushed. Unlike last years 21-point comeback the East couldn’t cut into the West lead.
