Allan Arbus, Psychiatrist On MASH, Dies At 95

Actor Allan Arbus, who appeared on numerous TV shows throughout the 70s and 80s, has died. Arbus passed away at his Los Angeles home last Friday, according to his daughter Amy. The cause of death was not released. Arbus was 95-years-old.

Arbus appeared on shows like Taxi, Starsky & Hutch, The Four Seasons, Wonder Woman and Matlock, but it was his character on M*A*S*H that he is most remembered for. He played the sarcastic psychiatrist Maj. Sidney Freedman in 12 episodes of the hit show, which starred Alan Alda, Wayne Rogers and Loretta Swit. In recent years, Arbus appeared on shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm, Judging Amy and NYPD Blue.

The actor was married twice. His marriage to photographer Diane Arbus lasted from 1941 to 1969. They were separated for the last 10 years of the marriage. Diane committed suicide in 1971. Arbus married Irish-American actress Mariclare Costello six years later.

In addition to his two children with Diane, Arbus is survived by Mariclare and their daughter Arin.
